The 1950s, filled with Cold War paranoia and the new competition of television brought a time of reinvention for film. This decade saw the dominance of Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, Ida Lupino, and Alfred Hitchcock putting together their strongest set of films. The French New Wave had its start with the magnificent works of Agnès Varda. No one could dance on screen like Gene Kelly, Toshiro Mifune let out many of his legendary yells, and Grace Kelly along with Marlon Brando grabbed the hearts of everyone.
